The application of good governance is a must to make sure government provide a great performance while not neglecting justice and certainty. Indonesia has extensively adopting good governance as legislation has been passed to make sure the application which has similarity with UN ESCAP adoption on good governance principals: (1) participatory; (2) consensus oriented; (3) accountable; (4) transparent; (5) responsive; (6) effective and efficient; (7) equitable and inclusive; and (8) follows the rule of law.
The application of good governance is vital to the overall implementation of rights to the city. Active inclusion in policy making, pro-poor economic growth, strong stable societies, healthy environment, and strong accessible justice system will be formulated through the application of good governance, in which will ensure rights to the city for all of its citizens. Good urban governance, based on the principle of urban citizenship, affirms that no man, woman or child can be denied access to the necessities of urban life, including adequate shelter, security of tenure, safe water, sanitation, a clean environment, health, education and nutrition, employment and public safety and mobility.
This session will shares good practices on good governance and rights to the city fulfillment implementation from Indonesia government and globally in correlation to rights to the city provision. The findings on effectiveness, obstacles, current status of good governance implementation by urban governments globally, and stakeholder, especially youth, actions to promote good governance will also be shared in this session.
Following a panel discussion by speakers, youth participants will take part in focus group discussion to deliberate on action plan(s) for youth to promote good governance. Debate ambience among participant on key issues of good urban governance implementation is also expected to take place.
